Get Some Of George’s Old Goat
Beginning this week – and provided you can get to Virginia – some of George Washington’s old hooch will go on sale. America’s first president loved his rye whiskey and the George Washington Distillery in Virginia will recreate that liquid using local grain, water and going by Washington’s original recipe and techniques of the time. Washington’s original distillery ran from 1798 to 1814 [when it burned down] and was one of the largest distilleries on the East Coast before his death [in 1799]. Only 1100 bottles of GW’s rye will be made – this year, anyway – and most of those will go to people already on the waiting list, however some will be reserved for the gift shop on Washington’s estate.
George Washington’s Rye Whiskey will go on sale for $95 per bottle in the gift shop at Washington’s main estate in Mount Vernon, Virginia beginning on April 4, 2013.
