Ian Macleod Distillers Partners with The Islay Boys
The Ian Macleod Distillery has announced an update on the progress of the Laggan Bay on Islay distillery. Ian Macleod Distillers and The Islay Boys own and operate the new single malt whisky distillery.
The Laggan Bay distillery is the 12th on Islay, the Hebridean island famed for its peaty whiskies. It is scheduled for completion in 2025 when its handmade copper pot stills will produce the first spirit.
While full details of the project are under wraps, Ian Macleod Distillers will use it to expand its portfolio. The company’s flagship brand, Rosebank, will soon be reopened, and Glengoyne, Tamdhu, and Edinburgh Gin are premium brands it produces.
As part of the partnership, The Islay Boys will design and build the new distillery. The company owns a recently completed brewery next door to the distillery in Glenegedale, close to Laggan Bay,

Managing director of Ian Macleod Distillers Limited, Leonard Russell said: “I am delighted to be partnering with my friends, The Islay Boys, to build Laggan Bay distillery. It’s a very exciting project, which will allow us to offer a brand-new Islay single malt before the end of the decade’.
According to the Retail Times, Glengoyne, an Ian Macleod Company, “was the first Scotch whisky distillery to have wetlands to manage its waste and was recognized with a Green Tourism Gold Award in 2023.”
In line with Ian Macleod Distillers’ commitment to sustainability, the Laggan Bay Distillery will feature wetlands to manage its liquid waste and provide a haven for wildlife.
Furthermore, the distillery is exploring renewable energy options with the Islay Energy Trust and Scottish Power. This highlights the company’s commitment to using green flame energy to reduce its carbon footprint.
The new distillery is expected to be finished by 2030. Meanwhile, visitors to Islay’s 2024 Fèis Ìle will be able to see the plans for the upcoming Warehouse 1
