Molson Coors has purchased Aspall – the UK’s top-selling premium cider – for an undisclosed price [but rumored to value Aspall at $55 million]. The UK is the world’s largest market for cider – accounting for 45% of sales – and Chevallier family-owned Aspall was the largest of the cidermakers in the UK.

More than half of all apples grown in the UK are used to make cider.

Aspall joins other UK companies purchased by Molson Coors – including Sharp’s Brewery as well as breweries in Burton-upon-Trent, Tadcaster, Burtonwood and Cork, Ireland and accounts for about 20% of the UK beer market.
