Penelope Crosses The Pond
Penelope Bourbon is crossing the pond and will be made available in the UK. Penelope is distilled in the Lawrenceburg, Indiana-based distillery owned by Kansas-based spirits behemoth MGP, whose subsidiary, Luxco, is the official owner of the Penelope brand.
Previously, Penelope had only been available sporadically in the UK, but now the brand’s full core range will be available as well as the usual array of limited releases.
Penelope’s core range includes Architect Bourbon, Four Grain Straight Bourbon and Wheated Bourbon, and Architect Bourbon. Additionally, there are several limited edition Penelope bourbons: Valencia, finished for 12 months in Vino de Naranja casks from Seville; Rosé Cask Finish, partially aged in French Grenache rosé casks from the Southern Rhône; Rio, a double cask finish in American honey barrels and Brazilian Amburana oak; and Old Fashioned.
Penelope Architect Bourbon has a 21% rye mash bill, is aged between four and five and a half years and finished using French oak staves, bottled at 52% alcohol by volume [104 proof] and is being made available for $80 per 700ml bottle. Penelope Four Grain blends three mash bills of corn, wheat, rye, and malted barley is aged for four years, was bottled at 40% alcohol by volume [80 proof] and is sbeing made available for $55 per bottle. Penelope Wheated is a wheated Four Grain blend aged four to six years, bottled at 47.5% alcohol by volume [95 proof] and is being made available for $70 per bottle.
