Port Ellen Kicks Out Untold Stories From The Grave
The Islay distillery Port Ellen closed in 1983 but it is still kicking out whisky from its last few casks – such as the new Port Ellen Untold Stories The Spirit Safe single malt Scotch whisky.
Port Ellen: Untold Stories The Spirit Safe, has been matured in a mix of ex-Bourbon and ex-European Sherry refill casks, then bottled at 50.9% alcohol by volume [101.8 proof] and is said to contain notes of melon, mint and fruit salad.
Port Ellen: Untold Stories The Spirit Safe is being made available for $5,935 per 700ml bottle in April 2019.
The closed Port Ellen distillery is now owned by spirits giant Diageo which has reportedly invested $45 million to bring Port Ellen back into operation and is currently scheduled to reopen in 2021.
