Roe – It’s Fish Eggs But It’s Also Irish Whiskey Now
The savvy fishing person will know that roe is fish eggs but that same fishing person will now also have to be aware that that same word will share a meaning with Irish whiskey after spirit industry giant Diageo announced plans for an Irish whiskey distillery in Dublin where they will make a premium blend that they will call Roe & Co.
Roe & Co is actually not named in honor of fish eggs but rather George Roe, who helped build the Irish whiskey industry in the 19th Century.
The George Roe and Co distillery will begin production in the first half of 2019 and will be made from hand-selected stocks of Irish malt and grain whiskies and aged in bourbon casks and bottled at 45% alcohol by volume. However, the first blend of Roe & Co will be made available in key European cities beginning on March 1, 2017.
