Sazerac Aids California Wildfire Recovery Efforts
Sazerac is joining the many corporate firms which have decided to assist in the recovery efforts from the recent wildfires in the Los Angeles area. Sazerac’s assistance will come in the form of a fundraiser offering consumers the chance to buy “Buffalo Trace Distillery’s most sought-after bourbons.”
Sazerac says that 100% of the proceeds from the funds raised will go to two nonprofit organizations committed to ongoing relief efforts in the Los Angeles area – World Central Kitchen (WCK), which works with restaurants and food trucks to provide meals to those in need, and Another Round Another Rally, which provides financial support for hospitality workers impacted by the wildfires.
As far as the spirits involved are concerned, those offered include Old Rip Van Winkle 10 Year, Pappy Van Winkle 12 Year, Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve Rye 13 Year, Pappy Van Winkle 15 Year, Pappy Van Winkle 20 Year, Pappy Van Winkle 23 Year and Eagle Rare 25, which is the subject of a Buffalo Trace experiment to extend the typical aging process for American whiskey and bourbon.
The fundraising event has been split into two parts – the first is an online silent auction for the first-ever single barrel of Pappy Van Winkle 15 Year Old. Bidding begins at $10,000 and increases in $1,000 increments. The online silent auction is currently live at www.sazeracgivesback.com through February 23, 2025 and the winner will receive a “monetary prize equal to the value of the lot, which may be used to purchase the bottles yielded from the barrel, as well as the empty barrel.”
The second part of the fundraising effort will allow consumers to donate directly on the site for a chance to win either a complete bottle set of the Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon Collection, or one bottle of Buffalo Trace Distillery’s Eagle Rare 25. Each entry is $50 and consumers can enter as many times as they like.
The winners of each prize will be randomly drawn and notified via phone and email the week of March 3, 2025.
The Los Angeles area wildfires broke out in early January, burning through more than 50,000 acres of land, destroying more than 16,000 buildings and taking the lives of at least 28 people reported to date.
