Scotch Malt Whisky Society Ready for Distillers One of One
The Scotch Malt Whisky Society has unveiled its unique decanter that will be showcased at the Distillers One of One auction. The auction will open on October 3, 2023, and the SMWS has teased the public with its creation.
According to information released through its website, the special expression is dubbed The Only Drop. The whisky was matured over 33 years and pays homage to a historic Speyside distillery. The company hasn’t unveiled the name of the distillery but most websites, including the Whisky Raiders, believe it is Macallan.

In addition, the spirit is encased in a bespoke sculpture made of paper pulp infused with wood shavings from the casks that were used to mature it. Lead distiller at the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, Euan Campbell said:
“With such a unique one of one we decided to delve into the warehouse of some of the rarest casks that we have. The casks that I decided on in the end have an interesting backstory – a tale to tell – and when the samples arrived in the lab we had fun trying to put them together and figure out the right combination and arrive at the best flavor profile possible.”
The worldwide whisky auction provides an opportunity for distilleries to offer unique homage and creativity to a global whisky community. Bidders will be able to add these special edition one-of-a-kind bottles to their whisky libraries.
According to Rebecca Hamilton, Chief Marketing and Experience Officer at SMWS, the donations are forever unique and will never be offered anywhere else after the auction.
“The Distillers One of One auction gives whisky creators the opportunity to support and come together as an industry to celebrate our craft. We donate a one-of-a-kind whisky that will never be available after the auction closes. It was important to us that we did things a little differently, so instead of an elaborate expensive bottle, we created a stripped back, sustainable design which puts the whisky at the heart and lets it shine as the hero.”
