Tamdhu Releases New Dedication Collection
This new release from Speyside’s Tamdhu Distillery is the first in a new series of whiskies dubbed the Dedication Collection. There are eight releases in the Dedication Collection; four in domestic markets and four in global travel retail. The 43 Years Old is a domestic release.
Notably, three sherry oak casks are used to mature the Tamdhu 43 Years Old, demonstrating Tamdhu’s signature use of seasoned oak casks seasoned with oloroso sherry.
Distillery Manager, Sandy McIntyre, said: “At Tamdhu, our whisky is the ultimate artistic expression. So to launch this landmark collection we didn’t want to get side-tracked by gimmicks. Or look away from our whisky. Because it’s there, in the spirit itself, you see our craft, passion, and dedication.”
Tamdhu Rolls Out New 43-year-old Whisky
In collaboration with Peter Woitschikowski, Tamdhu took photos up-close of the spirits using a microscope attached to a camera. The whisky was crystallized with natural extracts and photographed once per year at a magnification of 43 times.
Woitschikowski said: “You never know how the images will come out. And every picture is different and unique. Tamdhu was a special case because the whisky is so pure. So perfect. We had to add extracts to create the crystallization required. The results are quite beautiful, I believe.”
If you purchase Tamdhu 43 Years Old, McIntyre invites you to visit the distillery, which is closed to the public, to taste and explore Tamdhu’s whiskies.
Approximately 100 bottles of Tamdhu 43 Years Old have been released worldwide. The distillery says the single malt has notes of toffee, dried coriander, citrus, blackcurrant, and spices, and is finished with sherry oak.
However, according to the General Wine Company, Tamdhu is a more colorful expression than the press release denotes.
The whisky boasts a luxurious, silky mouthfeel, coating the palate with a delightful richness. As you savour each mouthful, a cascade of flavours unfolds. Sherried Sweetness: The influence of the Oloroso casks shines through on the palate, delivering notes of raisin, prune, and a touch of toffee.
