The Sassenach Whisky Brand Wins Another Gold
The Sassenach whisky brand has followed up on its double gold win in the San Francisco World Spirits Competition with a first-place win at the Master of Malt Whisky Championship.
The whisky which is produced by Heughan’s Great Glen Company, won more than 76% of the votes cast by some 35,000 members. Last year the whisky brand was honored with a double gold in San Francisco. The Sassenach whisky was launched in 2020 as part of the company’s international portfolio to sell Scottish products.
According to the judges at both competitions, the whisky brand is renowned for its sweet essence on the swallow. In another competition, the International Spirits Challenge, the brand was also honored with gold in the 2022 contest. This added to the high value given to the Sassenach sweet notes. The International Spirits Challenge has been around for over 25 years.
Another interesting take on the Heughan’s Great Glen Company is Outlander star actor Sam Heughan. Hueghan is the owner of both the company and the whisky brand. It has been his concept as a self-appointed ambassador of Scottish products to the world.
Master of Malt is one of the world’s largest online whisky and spirit retailers. It hosts its own whisky competition each year and selects the top whisky via popular votes from its registered members. It currently provides services to more than 36,000 members worldwide.
Charlotte Gorzelak, social media manager at Master of Malt, said: “The Master of Malt Whisky Championships is purely run on public vote.
“Throughout the competition, only votes from our followers and via our website have the power to either knock out or take the brands included to the next round.
“It runs on a poll-based mechanic, which we feel is the fairest way when running things like this. No one can buy votes – at least, not from us!”
