Wenzel Whiskey Wins at World Whisky Awards
“Wheated Two” from Wenzel Whiskey won the Best American Blended Limited Release award at the World Whisky Awards. The brand was compared to many spirits from around the world. This year’s World Whisky Awards were held in Louisville on Feb. 8. Whisky Magazine launched the award program to “commend the best whiskies across more than 20 categories.”
This year, the entries were judged blindly by independent spirits experts. Wenzel Whiskey won the 12 Years and Under Blended Limited Release category for releases limited to 3,600 bottles or less.
According to a press note, The Wenzel Whiskey Company, located in Covington, has been distilling bourbon for over 150 years. The distillery uses 6 and 7-year-old barrels blended to create the “harmonious marriage of flavors” known as “Wheated Two.”
Wenzel Whiskey Wins Big at World Whisky Awards
“We are truly honored to receive such esteemed recognition from the World Whisky Awards,” said Bill Whitlow, Brand Ambassador for Wenzel Whiskey.
“‘Wheated Two’ represents the culmination of our dedication to blending exceptional whiskey that captivates the palate and delights connoisseurs. Our triumph in the Best American Blended Limited Release category underscores Wenzel’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of traditional whiskey-making and setting new standards of quality and distinction. This accolade is a testament to the talent and passion of our entire team.”
The company has immediate plans to expand its services to include bourbon production. The press note stated:
”Wenzel offers a unique event space and blending experience, which leverages barrel-proof bourbon. By 2024, Wenzel Whiskey will be distilling bourbon onsite on the south side of the new production facility, which will include a tasting room, event space, and retail shop that’s part of a multimillion-dollar expansion.”
The term “wheat whiskey” refers to whiskeys that use wheat, instead of rye, in their mashbills, such as Cabin Still, Maker’s Mark, Old Fitzgerald, Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve, Rebel Yell, and W. L. Weller.
