Wildmoor – New Whisky Brand Launches With Special Collection
As a new brand of blend Scotch whiskies, Wildmoor represents a range of whiskies aged between 21 and 40 years, honoring the country’s wild elements. This collection consists of seven blended whiskies, each with an intense flavor profile. the brand was created by William Grant & Sons.
During the past six decades, William Grant & Sons have acquired and curated a reserve of rare, aged malts and grain whiskies. The firm has created a ‘flavor map of Scotland’ where liquids are not limited to a particular distillery.
“We had a vision for Wildmoor: to create a whisky that embodied the raw majesty of Scotland’s wildest places, the awe-inspiring landscapes,” said master blender Brian Kinsman, who oversees Wildmoor, Glenfiddich and The Balvenie.
Wildmoor – Seven Unique and Rare Whisky Pays Tribute to Scotland
“With access to the family’s private vaults of prized liquids, I was able to explore intense flavors. I delved deeper into my personal memories of these wild places, and what was initially a single whisky has become a series of extremely old and prestigious blended malts and blended whiskies, each one a multi-sensory tribute to Scotland’s vast terrain.”
There are also blends of Highland and Speyside malts combined with Lowland grain whiskies, such as Dark Moorland 23 Year Old. This spirit is aged in American oak casks with American and European oak, as well as oloroso sherry casks.
Another spirit, the 30-year-old Rugged Coast expression carries notes of peat, stone fruit, and oloroso Sherry casks. The whisky was inspired by Scotland’s western coast.
Among this collection of whiskies is the Black Mountain 40-Year-Old, a blend of rare grains and Highland malts from long-closed distilleries. It is by far the oldest expression and its liquid is finished in a PX Sherry cask.
Wildworld gives its recommendations for enhancing the spirits that make up this collection. The 23-year-old whisky should be garnished with lavender and thyme, the 30-year-old should be topped with wood chips, and the 40-year-old should be topped with sugared oranges.
