La Aroma De Cuba Mi Amor: A Cuban-Ecuadorean-Nicaraguan Menage A Trois
The cigar with the long name – La Aroma de Cuba mi Amor [“the smell of Cuba, my love”] is the result of a ménage a trois between the Nicaraguan binder and filler with a wrapper originating from Cuban seed and grown in Ecuador. The culmination is a delight that may remind you of spice or chocolate or possibly some other long-repressed but favorable tasting memory from your youth.
There are several varieties of the La Aroma de Cuba mi Amor, but WhiskyCritic sampled the Edicion Especial [No. 55 ring size] specifically and we are pleased to report that this particular cigar provides what those in the know call a “full-bodied” smoke – if you are going out to dine at a fancy restaurant for the evening, then think of the La Aroma de Cuba mi Amor Edicion Especial as the main entrée rather than an appetizer or salad. This makes it the perfect choice for an evening of bocce ball or shuffleboard [but perhaps not lawn darts, as you may find yourself to be in a state of bliss before long and your judgment could be affected].
While the La Aroma de Cuba mi Amor Edicion Especial does sustain its full-bodied swagger for a majority of the time, WC noticed that there can be some fluctuating levels of integrity throughout the smoke, making it not entirely consistent. However, this is a minor quibble and may vary in your experience.
WC always accompanies a cigar with a beverage and in this case, we paired the La Aroma de Cuba mi Amor Edicion Especial with a Wandering Aengus Dry Oaked cider – a perfect combination that allows the bittersweet/sharp apples used in the Wandering Aengus Dry Oaked cider to complement the chocolate-y, spicy elements of the La Aroma de Cuba mi Amor.
The La Aroma de Cuba mi Amor Edicion Especial is a reasonably priced cigar – you should find one to be priced between $9-$10 – and WC awards it a 93 on a scale of 100.
