Nikka Whisky Tops Bestselling World Whisky List
Nikka Whisky From The Barrel has been crowned again as the bestselling world whisky based on bar votes. The Japanese Brand was followed by Beam Suntory’s Suntory Toki and Yamazaki, which is making the list for the first time. Both top-selling expressions are Japanese-owned.
According to a report published by Drink International, Nikka and Suntory have dominated this category for decades, and there’s no sign that will change. The top two brands account for over half of the category’s house pours, as well as the two most trending brands.

In 27% of the bars polled, Nikka was the bestselling whisky, followed by 12% and 8%, so it dominates as a house pour. Similar results can be found for Suntory’s Toki, which was a bestseller in 22% of bars, followed by 14% and 6% respectively.
Another interesting runner-up is Yamazaki. It was a bestseller in 13% of bars, a runner-up in 12%, and a third-place finisher in 4%. Yamazaki dropped slightly from Suntory Toki but remained strong across the board with its range of age statements.
The report continued to list other whiskies that came up strong behind the winners. One such whisky is Kavalan from the King Car Group ranked as the first choice for 8% of bars, second for 4%, and third for 7%. Heading away from Asia is the Canadian Club, followed by new entries Ichiro’s and Mars.
The bestselling world whisky list is an annual report conducted and published by Drinks International. The team explained how the report was conducted.
“The Annual Brands Report results are the culmination of a survey of 100 bars from around the world which have been nominated or won international awards. The report offers a picture of the buying habits of the world’s best bars – not only which brands sell best, but also what’s trending to indicate the brands that are hot right now.”
