Bevvy Crowdfund $1.5 Million for Service Expansion
There is a new whisky app that has been called the ‘ultimate digital whisky companion’ that connects whisky enthusiasts to tons of available rare whiskies. Known as Bevvy, a UK-based mobile app that lets users discover and profile whisky, has raised US$1.5 million to finance its marketing projects and provide services to more countries..
With this new app, users will have access to a catalog of more than 200,000 whisky bottles from the past 120 years. Users can scan labels to reveal tasting notes, distillery information, and the value of the bottles.
How Bevvy Crowdfunding Is Being Done
With over 120,000 active users, the Islay-based startup was founded by whisky drinker Laurie Black, mathematician Atanas Tonchev, and medtech entrepreneur Lucas Heron. Investments have mostly come from angel investors and equity investors based in Scotland.
According to Black, the donations would be used to cement existing market share and explore new horizons.
“Having already established the leading position in the digital whisky space; this new capital allows us to cement our market share and grow our consumer audience into new territories. We’re hugely excited to be heading Stateside in 2024.”
Notably, Bevvy is not just a list of rare and great whiskies. It makes it possible for consumers to rate whiskies, enabling the platform to understand their preferences and recommend appropriate bottles. Plus, bar owners, distilleries, independent bottlers, and whisky auction houses can utilize the platform.
Bevvy’s finance director Greg Gormley shared Bevvy’s commitment to the unification of the whisky market.
“In one of the most challenging fundraising environments I can recall; Bevvy’s successful raise underlines its dominant and growing position as a critical tool among whisky consumers and collectors.
“The interest and demand in whisky is growing at a pace not seen before. However, the market is fragmented and disjointed, with an absence of easy-to-access tools and information.
“There is a considerable hole in the market for a value-add, information-led app that allows a bottle of whisky to be fully understood, in terms of taste, history, and pricing. Bevvy is addressing this need and is finding its audience is both engaged and growing at a phenomenal pace.”
