Kavalan Named World Whisky Producer of the Year 2023
Taiwanese distillery Kavalan was crowned the ‘World Whisky Producer of the Year’ by the ISC. This marks the fourth consecutive award for the whisky giant. The International Spirits Challenge 2023 ceremony was held in London and recognized Kavalan as the top-performing distillery this year.

The award came at a most opportune time when the distillery is expanding its facilities. Kavalan is constructing a new Maturation Warehouse and is expecting to boost production. After the commissioning of Kavalan’s Second Distillery in December 2016, the company is capable of producing 10 million bottles at full capacity.
Kavalan Whisky Awards
However, the distillery is used to receiving awards for its products and expressions. A number of awards have been presented to Kavalan Distiller. These include “Double Gold” and “Gold,” for its Distillery Visitor Center and Distillery Tour, as well as four “Gold” awards for the following whiskies:
- Kavalan Distillery Select No.1 Single Malt Whisky
- King Car Conductor Single Malt Whisky
- Kavalan Concertmaster Sherry Cask Finish Single Malt Whisky
- Kavalan Solist Brandy Single Cask Strength Single Malt Whisky
Kavalan Distillery was founded in 2005 in Yilan County, Taiwan. The company has pioneered the art of producing single malt whisky sourced from the meltwaters of Snow Mountain and enhanced by sea and mountain breezes. Kavalan’s trademark creaminess is created by combining all this with 40 years of beverage production under the parent company, King Car Group. It has already won over 790 gold awards in the industry.
King Car Group CEO Mr YT Lee said the new maturation warehouse represented the epitome of the company’s aspirations.
“In this exciting phase of Kavalan’s expansion, we’re blessed with the island’s subtropical climate, which not only helps age our whisky faster with enhanced complexity but also enables us to explore more experimental casks, unlocking greater possibilities for innovation in our whisky-making process.”
Kavalan Distillery expects to return to pre-pandemic levels of 800,000 visitors to its facilities.
