Mossburn Distillers Debuts Cask Collaboration Limited Edition
Mossburn Distillers has rolled out the first expression in its new limited whisky edition bringing life to the special collection. Dubbed Cask Collaboration, the Marussia Beverages-owned finally materialized a plan that was 12 years in the making.
According to a report by Spirit Business, the first whisky is a 12-year-old Speyside mixed malt aged in ex-whisky barrels. Upon maturation, the single malt is placed directly in rum containers from Barbados’ Foursquare Rum Refinery.
The Mossburn Special Whisky Edition
The series will deliver a unique articulation a year. A commitment by the brand to mixing and completing numerous Scotches in a variety of containers, including barrels sourced from various refineries worldwide.
Richard Seale, the owner of Foursquare Distillery commented on the special edition: “When Neil asked if we could collaborate on aging his whisky in Foursquare casks, I was immediately keen to be involved. It’s intriguing to see the character our rum casks will impart on the blend and it’s an excellent opportunity to engage whisky drinkers to bring them into the world of rum.”
For Neil Macleod Mathieson, a whisky maker, the distilling process is like a balancing act. He said: “Pairing casks to a whisky is a delicate business for Mossburn. We are looking to enhance the character of the chosen whiskies and add nuances from the spirit that the new casks used to contain. It’s all about balance.
“These Barbados casks complement rather than fight with our Speyside malt whisky blend and together they create a whisky both rum and whisky lovers will surely enjoy.”
The aroma of peppermint and nutmeg, along with toffee apple and gingerbread on the palate and a lengthy, sweet, spicy finish, make this year’s product stand out. The packaging features palm tree graphics as an homage to the shared origin of the two businesses.
The distillery will produce 10,000 bottles for global consumption with 1,500 bottles exclusive to the UK.
