Sazerac Joins Irish Whiskey Fray With Garavogue
Buffalo Trace Distillery-owned Sazerac has joined the Irish whiskey fray with their inaugural Irish single malt, Garavogue, via their Hawk’s Rock Distillery [previously known as the Lough Gill Distillery in Ireland, which had produced Athrú Irish whiskey]. Garavogue gets is named after the river that flows past the distillery.
Sazerac’s Garavogue 20-year-old Irish Whiskey is a double-distilled Irish single malt that was initially matured for a minimum of 14 years in ex-bourbon American oak casks, then finished in French Muscat, French Sauternes, Spanish Pedro Ximénez sherry, and Barbadian rum casks before being bottled at 47% alcohol by volume [94 proof] and is said to contain notes of apple, citrus, peach and vanilla.
Garavogue 20 Year Old Irish Whiskey is being made available for $200 per 700ml bottle in Ireland, the UK and the USA.
