Sazerac Putts For Par In Golf Suit
Sazerac – owner of Fireball brand whiskey liqueur – has partially won a trademark lawsuit filed in the European Union against the Saudi Arabia-owned LIV Golf tour that had alleged LIV Golf’s trademark application for ‘Fireballs GC’ could be confused with Fireball Cinnamon Whisky brand, for which it holds the trademark ‘Fireball’. Fireballs GC is the name of a LIV golf team led by Spain’s Sergio García.
Sazerac filed the lawsuit to protect both their goods and entertainment services associated with the Fireball name. The EU Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) found in favor of Sazerac for the goods portion of the suit but not the entertainment services claim.
Sazerac has owned Fireball since 1989, when it was purchased from a flailing Seagram empire.
