“We put in some of the key elements of what makes The Macallan unique. When you come in, you see all the elements of oak, copper, and Albariza stone from the south of Spain.”
The Macallan House concept aims to bring the distillery’s Scottish estate to life overseas. So says the managing director of Hong Kong, Macau, Japan, and Korea for Edrington, Jaime Martin Chocano.
In the Chinese countryside, visitors can take a journey through The Macallan Estate, which includes a visit to the distillery, sightseeing, and a collection of single-malt whiskies.
As part of this project, copper walls emulate the small copper stills whisky maker uses for distillation, and oak flooring represents the oak barrels in which the whiskies are matured.es
In addition, there is an Albariza stone featured in the bar area, which is a reference to the sherry wine made in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. It is used to season casks of the distillery’s whiskies. Infusions of wild, aromatic herbs in the air remind visitors of the lush ecosystem on The Macallan’s 485-acre estate. Meanwhile, the walls are curved with wooden slats echoing the undulating roof design.
