The house style of Glenglassaugh is typified by tropical fruit and maritime brine notes. Each of these old-timers amplifies said tones in a dramatic way using its own special cooperage.

The 48 Years Old whisky is a bronzed spirit that has been aged since 1974 in former sweet Tuscan dessert wine. On the nose are ripples of overripe orchard fruit, and it is coated in salted taffy on the palate. A slow and steady finish reveals notes of lychee in its velvety 46.1ABV body. The price is $7,700.
This rare expression is slightly over a year old, which makes it softer if enjoyed in a snifter. Coconut fills the air under your nose as you sniff this 49 Years Old, special. Its tropical character is attributed to its aging in ex-bourbon casks. You can find this rare rum at retail for $8,800 a bottle.
It’s hard to argue with the richness of the 51 Years Old, aged in an oloroso sherry puncheon. On the nose, it dangles the telltale signs of raisins, dates, plums, and stewed cherries. It’s accompanied by balsamic vinegar on the palate. It sells for $11,000 and contains 44.2 percent alcohol.
“The legacy of our most sought-after casks dates back to the 1970s when these liquids were first laid down. Harnessing rich natural color and character,” says Glenglassaugh’s master blender, Rachel Barrie.
“It is extremely rare to find casks that have been left to mature in coastal locations for such a long period. And our warehouses have acted as the custodians of this old and rare liquid for over five decades.”
