The Emerald Isle Edges Macallan to Become World’s Most Expensive Whisky
The world’s rarest whisky, The Emerald Isle, has edged past The Macallan to become the most expensive single malt whisky in the world. The expression was auctioned by The Craft Irish Whiskey Co. which started the year in a record-breaking mode. The distillery sold the spirit to American collector Mike Daley.
According to a press release, Daley bought the bottle of The Emerald Isle for US2.8 million surpassing the Macallan summer record by $100 thousand. In the past, Scotch whiskies have been the most sought-after bottles. In November, The Macallan 1926 sold for $2.7 million at the Sotheby’s auction, briefly becoming the most expensive bottle in the world.
The Emerald Isle Is now the World’s Most Expensive Whisky
When questioned about his motive behind purchasing The Emerald Isle, Mike Daley said: “Irish is the future of whiskey. I’m excited to be part of it, as a collector, but most importantly as a drinker.”
“The rebirth of Irish whiskey is relatively new, so I feel like I’m getting in on the ground floor. Luxury scotch, to me, is already a crowded type of market. But we’re only just starting to see luxury Irish make a name for itself. I guarantee you that in the years to come, it will get to where scotch is today.”
The Distilled Spirits Council reports 2,800% growth in Irish whiskey in recent years, confirming Daley’s predictions. He made his fortune investing in hyaluronic acid long before the pharmaceutical industry caught up with his predictions.
Jay Bradley, founder and CEO of The Craft Irish Whiskey Co. said:
“A bottle of The Emerald Isle becoming the most expensive whiskey or whisky ever sold is a monumental achievement for my business and an incredibly proud moment for me. I started The Craft Irish Whiskey Co. to make Irish whiskey the most coveted luxury spirit and restore Ireland’s reputation for crafting the finest whiskeys in the world, this brings us several steps closer to achieving that, and we’re only six years into the journey. There’s a lot more to come from us, and I’m excited for our customers and competitors to see what we have in store.”
