USA Ends Tariffs On Single Malt Whiskies
The USA has agreed to suspend tariffs on single malt whiskies that were imposed in retaliation over a subsidy dispute initially involving aircraft manufacturers Airbus and Boeing that began in 2004.
Although the tariffs have been lifted for now by the administration of newly-elected president Joe Biden, the tariffs will only be suspended for four months while an agreement is being negotiated.
The US-imposed tariff had been damaging the Scotch whisky industry with exports to the USA falling by as much as 35% according to Scotch Whisky Association spokesperson, Karen Betts.
