Vermont-based WhistlePig has released The Boss Hog: The Samurai Scientist – a 16-year-old rye whiskey finished in umeshu [a plum wine liqueur] barrels. WhistlePig partnered with Japanese brewery Kitaya to produce the limited edition whiskey.
WhistlePig The Boss Hog: The Samurai Scientist was finished in 90 barrels where umeshu had been aged for 11 years, distilled by koji fermentation, was subsequently bottled at 60-61% alcohol by volume [120-122 proof] and is said to contain notes of cinnamon, ginger and vanilla.
Whistlepig The Boss Hog: The Samurai Scientist is being made available in December 2019 for $770 per bottle.
