Gallo Purchases Four Roses From Kirin
Japan-based owner Kirin has sold Kentucky-based bourbon brand Four Roses to E&J Gallo Winery for up to $775 million, according to an announcement by Kirin.
The deal is expected to be finalized later this year and includes a $50 million deviation if Four Roses hits a performance target, according to Kirin, which purchased Four Roses in 2002.
The $775 million paid for Four Roses eclipses the record paid for a Kentucky distillery – besting both the $600 million Campari paid for Wilderness Trail in 2022. (When Campari paid $420 million and is currently set to acquire the remaining stake in 2031 for an additional $180 million) as well as the $581 million Campari paid for Wild Turkey in 2009.
Gallo is privately held by members of the Gallo family and issued a statement, where a Gallo spokesperson said: “No changes are planned to operations, production, or distribution. We will have no further comment until after closing.” Gallo is known for their wines, but also has a portfolio consisting of ready-to-drink [RTD] spirits, such as High Noon.
The Four Roses operates a distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky along with a visitor center, a warehouse and bottling facility, and another visitor center at Coxs Creek near Bardstown.
Kirin remains the owner of The Dalmore Scotch, Shackleton Scotch and Horse Soldier Bourbon.
