Spirit Hound Releases The Hound’s Barrels Of Flood Whisky
Two years ago, massive flooding in the area of Spirit Hound Distillers location near Lyons, Colorado, put the distiller’s buildings under three feet of water and caused a six-month cessation of activity to wait for the water to recede, assess damage and repair what could be salvaged. Among the barrels that could be salvaged were those containing Spirit Hound’s Straight Malt Whisky, which will be released later this month. Spirit Hound Straight Malt Whisky emerges from a recipe containing both Colorado-grown malted barley as well as peat-smoked malted barley [also grown in Colorado], was aged two years in charred American oak barrels, is bottled at 45% alcohol content and is said to produce notes of caramel, toffee and turbinado sugar.
Only five 53-gallon barrels of Spirit Hound Straight Malt Whisky will be bottled and put on sale exclusively at the Spirit Hound Distillers in Lyons, Colorado [see link below] beginning on August 22, 2015.
