The Macallan Unveils 81-year Old Whisky
In elegant surroundings, The Macallan unveiled its oldest single malt whisky, The Reach, on Friday, February 23. First produced in 1940, The Reach captures a moment in time and the enduring spirit that has driven the brand for almost 200 years.
Featuring 81 years of history, The Reach is a masterpiece for Nigerian whisky connoisseurs. Made from a single, sherry-seasoned oak cask, the dark whisky appears in a Lalique crystal decanter.
The launch of The Reach in Nigeria highlights The Macallan’s commitment to delivering exceptional whisky experiences for its connoisseurs. There are only 288 decanters available worldwide.

Notably, The Reach is suspended between three hands that leads from a crystal statue. Each hand represents a unique part of The Macallan history. The timeless sculpture featuring three hands was created by Saskia Robinson, who produced countless drawings leading to this masterpiece.
The first hand commemorates the 1940 Distillery workers who crafted the spirit in trying times over eight decades ago. Forged in the middle of the World Wars, the spirit was miraculously kept alive through these tough times.
Another hand honors the late chairman, Allan Shiach, whose grandfather headed the company when this remarkable spirit was first produced. The process, the system, the ingredients – all sprung to life under his watch.
The third hand reflects the story of Kirsteen Campbell, today’s Master Distiller who carefully selected the 1940 cask used to create The Reach. She selected the ideal moment in time to share this precious whisky with the world.
Describing the notes of this expression, Kirsteen Campbell said: “Its deep auburn hue is the first hint of this remarkable whisky’s astonishing depth. Offering notes of dark chocolate, sweet cinnamon, and aromatic peat, leading on to treacle toffee, crystalised ginger and charred pineapple, before giving way to an intensely rich, sweet and smoky finish.”
