New York City-based Hudson has released a new straight rye whiskey – Back Room Deal – and renamed others in their lineup.
Hudson Back Room Deal is made from a mashbill containing 95% rye and 5% malted barley, finished in American oak barrels that were used to mature peated Scotch whisky, bottled at 46% alcohol by volume [92 proof] and is said to contain notes of vanilla, apricot, black pepper, brown sugar and smoky peat.
Hudson Back Room Deal is being made available for $55 per 750ml bottle.
Meanwhile, Hudson has updated the recipes and renamed other whiskies with Baby Bourbon becoming Bright Lights, Big Bourbon [the updated recipe is distilled from New York corn and aged in new charred American oak barrels], Manhattan Rye becoming Do The Rye Thing [has been distilled from a mash comprising 95% rye, 5% malted barley] and seasonal release Maple Cask Rye has become Short Stack [a straight rye whiskey finished in maple syrup casks]. All of the aforementioned whiskies have been bottled at 46% alcohol by volume [92 proof].
