Iceland Produces Whale Beer For True Vikings
Steoji, an Icelandic brewery, has teamed up with Hvalur, an Icelandic whaling company, to produce a beer containing whale meal – the heated then dried up remnants of dead whales – which they say, once imbibed, makes the beer drinker “true Vikings”. The “true Viking” beer is not that strong – only 5.2% alcohol content – but has no sugar and is said to be low-fat and high protein due to the inclusion of the no-longer-alive, dried-up whale parts.
The whale beer is only available in Iceland during the mid-winter festival days between January 24-February 22.
