Jack Daniel’s Rolls Out New Distillery Series #13
As part of its experimental and innovative whiskeys, Jack Daniel Distillery released Distillery Series Selection #13. Another Tennessee Straight Rye Whiskey twice barreled in new, charred American white oak barrels.
A unique grain blend of rye, malted barley, and corn is used to produce the Distillery Series expression. It is charcoal mellowed before maturation in charred American white oak barrels. It is then aged a further 2 1/2 years in a second charred American white oak barrel.
“Our Tennessee Rye is a take on rye whiskey that is uniquely Jack Daniel’s. The 70% rye grain bill allows the whiskey to shine through with just the right amount of spiciness and boldness,” said Chris Fletcher, Jack Daniel’s Master Distiller.
“We’re excited to add a limited-edition expression to our rye lineup with this release, which introduces the whiskey to a second barreling to create a profile with even more depth and character.”
New Jack Daniel’s Series Hits the US Market
As the whiskey is double barreled, the whiskey features flavors of charred oak, blackstrap molasses, spearmint, anise, and dried baking spices on the nose. This is followed by flavors of sweet smoke and burnt sugar.
Jack Daniel’s Distillery Series Twice Barreled Tennessee Straight Rye Whiskey, bottled at 107 proof, is available at select Tennessee liquor stores and at the Jack Daniel Distillery in Lynchburg.
Among the key processes in creating Jack Daniel’s Tennessee whiskey is the special charcoal mellowing process. In this process, freshly distilled whiskey is filtered through a 10-foot sugar maple charcoal filter.
A popular story from the pages of history. Jack Daniel’s has won the heart and palette of the world. The website narrates his story as seen below.
Jasper Newton Daniel, more commonly known as Jack, introduces the world to Old No. 7, his signature charcoal-mellowed Tennessee Whiskey. (In 1864), Jack leaves home and is taken in by Reverend Dan Call. At the Call family farm, he learns the art of whiskey making from the preacher and an enslaved man named Nathan “Nearest” Green. Jack would later hire Nearest as the Jack Daniel Distillery’s head distiller, what we call the Master Distiller today.
