The Glenrothes Distillery Launches Philos Whisky Decanter
Scotch whisky distillery The Glenrothes has created a new whisky decanter, Philos. The luxury distillery which caters to yachters and sailing has expanded its whisky gadgets with the new item.
The Philos gimbal decanter was created to hold the finest whisky at sea so that every drop can be saved. It is an elegant object designed for the most luxurious yachts. Philos combines precision craftsmanship with contemporary design.
The making of The Philos Whisky Decanter
Little Halstock created Philos to address many complex issues related to the open seas and oceans. While a boat is in motion, Philos was designed to stand up to waves and currents. The descanter allows the whisky to flow smoothly even against the strongest tide.
Anna Lisa Stone, head of creative for The Glenrothes, and designer Olga Fox of Studio Indigo conceived Philos after meeting at a whisky tasting on the Scottish Isles. The pair indulged in business discussions on whisky design. The conversation finished addressing the best way to present The Glenrothes‘ Demijohn 1969.
“The crux of the idea was to use this object to protect a whisky so special that not a single drop could be spilled.
“We identified the perfect liquid: Demijohn 1969. In a cool dark corner of The Glenrothes warehouse cellar, behind locked bars, is a small and finite collection of dust-covered demi-johns. The whisky within was laid down in the late 1960s and has been preserved in glass in the bowels of our distillery for more nearly a decade. It is a beautiful and truly unrepeatable liquid from a bygone era. A story in every sip,” explains Stone.
Stone and Fox collaborated to create an apparatus that handles and decants the finest whiskies at sea without spilling a drop. Their aim is to break boundaries and challenge conventions while maintaining a strong connection to The Glenrothes’ heritage and craftsmanship.
